Quarry Bank Mill

Quarry Bank Mill on the Styal Estate near Manchester

On Saturday we took the Podlings to Quarry Bank Mill, an 18th century cotton mill maintained by the National Trust. We got there too late in the day to tour the mill itself this time, but we had a lovely time walking around the grounds and playing in the park. It is no great distance from where we live and since we are members of the National Trust we will definitely be going back to take the Podlings round the mill next time. I'm very keen to see the water wheel. If the wheel shaft we saw is anything to go by, it must be truly enormous!

A rather impressive old wheel shaft from the water wheel

How many Podlings can you get on a swing?

The charming Victorian postbox outside the ticket office, still emptied daily by the Royal Mail!
