B is for butterfly

This afternoon Emma and I focused on the letter 'b' and butterflies. We made a butterfly by drawing around her hands, cutting out the shapes and then stapling the thumbs together. She then decorated it with stickers. We coloured in a butterfly picture together and worked on writing the letter b. Then I read her 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle, which, not meaning to spoil the ending, has a butterfly in it! All of which was a pleasant way of passing the time between doing the lunch dishes and going to collect Tom and Lily from school.

Decorating her butterfly with stickers, whilst wearing a fairy costume obviously!

Serious business this crafting!

Emma decided to to do her colouring in the conservatory because "it's nice and warm."

A pleasant way to spend an afternoon. I was quite impressed with Emma's 'b'. This was the first time I have done any letter tracing with her and she loved it. I had to print out several sheets so she could do it again and again!

We have "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" in German (Die kleine Rauper nimmersatt), where on the last page he becomes a "wunderschöne Schmetterling" which Simon learnt about two years ago...doesn't matter whether we read it in English - the caterpillar always becomes a German butterfly! :-)

Die kleine Raupe nimmersatt in fact! Obviously you need to know that!
